FALL 2022 UPDATE
The new syllabus is now on-line on the CAS website. There is one "new" article - the updated NCCI experience rating manual - which has no major changes.
The rest of the syllabus has no changes to the source material but the CAS has added detail to the learning objectives. They have also adjusted the weights assigned to the sections to place more emphasis on the Bahnemann and Fisher readings. In our opinion, this reflects the existing evolution of Exam 8 rather than a shift for 2022 and later.
Lastly, this is the first time the CAS has promised to give you entire copies of the ISO and NCCI manuals during the exam rather than excerpts if needed. This shouldn't affect your approach for studying these types of problems as you need to be super fast during the exam so you've still got to practically memorize the methods. Knowing you can look up a detail if you forgot a step during the exam should be helpful though. However, this is the CAS we're talking about so until we know for sure you should plan on not having the entire manuals to hand during the exam. As BattleActs learns more within the confines of the CAS exam discussion terms we'll pass that information along to our users.
Update: We've received our 2022 Study Kit and note the following:
- The CAS may not have updated their cover pages as they still include the following sentence: "Candidates should not relay on having the complete manual available during the exam administration." This clearly contradicts the 2022 syllabus but the CAS has not offered any clarification. This applies to all readings in the study kit (ISO.Rating, NCCI.ExperienceRating, NCCI.Circular, NCCI.InformationalExhibits).
- Yet again, the Study Kit omits vital tables for the NCCI Experience Rating reading. There are no tables of ELRs and D-Ratios which means unless these are given to you in the question, you aren't given enough information in the study kit to calculate an NCCI experience modification. In any case, none of the released exam questions on the NCCI Experience Rating reading include relevant excerpts so practicing using the tables is challenging...
- The CAS has gone overboard with the NCCI Circular and provided the entire thing which is intimidating at well over 500 pages. Almost the entirety of it consists of dense tables of small print. Further, they included last year's extract from it so there's material duplication. If the CAS is seriously providing the entire manual in the exam environment then it's going to be even more challenging to locate the correct tables and read the right figures from them.
